No Birch But Branching Out

A couple weeks ago I started a lace shawl/stole in lovely lilac yarn Aurore Phildar. I got the pattern when I purchased the yarn. It looked a lot like Birch, but probably wasn't. It was my first lace project and it didn't go that well. First of all, casting on 299 stitches is no mean feat and then counting them to see if you got all the 299 stitches. I think I got lost in the pattern after two rows. I hadn't discover something you can use with the pattern repeats, stitchmarkers!! But still I kept on knitting. About a third into this project I looked at it and I didn't like it. So I ripped it all. What next! Well branching out seems to me I better idea.
The repeats are not that long, so I can remember where I am.
Sweater NO. 8a front panel is allready 20 cm long. I knitted in the car on our way to a birthday party. I got some strange looks from people, but I don't care. Knitting in public is allowed.
